Pantra, OMI

Johnastine Pantra, OMI

I am Johnasine Pantra, OMI from Bangladesh Delegation. The obalates has been evangelizing  in Bangladesh sisnce 1973. The Oblates are working with the poor from the very beginning of their arrival in Bangladesh. So I have got a precious vocation to become an oblate, seeing them how zealously and earnestly they work for the poor people, as a living witness of Christ. So I decided and ditermined to become an oblate.

I studied my elementary school in a small village which was run by the catholic mission. After completing my elementary school, I went to a boarding school which was run by the catholic priest and high school was run by Holy cross brothers. After passing my high school, I joined in the formation of the oblate. I studied HSC (higher secondary certificate) in Notre Dame college and I did my BA (Bachelor of Arts) in the same college. After that I went to Srilanka for Novitiate. I received my first vows in August 9, 2014. Then I came back to Bangladesh and studied philosophy and theology for six years.  I aslo did apostolic service for one year in the oblate parish. I received my perpetual profession in August 25, 2021 and I have been ordained as Deacon in August 26, 2021. Finally I have been ordained as a priest in December 10, 2021. So I am happy to belong to the oblate family.

I have been born in an extended family. My parents are still alive. I have four brothers and five sisters. All are got married. So I am yougest one.

I have become a  priest to work for the people who are still hunger for the living words of God. I feel that now people are rich but still poor in various ways. Many people are  still abandoned. So I want to serve them in this new land.

We are united with the one spirit of St Eugen de Mazenod. So as an oblate, I have received an obedience to serve this province. I am personally also enthusiastic to serve. People of Central European province have been cultivating their faith for many many years. There is a new culture arise in this modern age that is, not to nurturing own faith. This is a new face in this age. To solve this problem, We must work together, go the people and preach them again. I think that I cannot preach but I can reevangelize in this beautiful land. I also think that we must share our personals to survive our community, share our faith, activities, our weakness and stregnt. Diversity can unite us all.

As I have come to a new land or culture, I find that there is a hope, challege and a new beginning. I feel, members of the community and people are very positive and accepting minded. I feel happy to be in this land. As a priest I will work in the field of sacraments as well as other fields where oblates are working. As I am new in the land and everything is new to me, I expect to introduce me the new rites of the cultures and help me to know the culture sothat I can make the culture own and people of this land.

Members of the community and people are always ready to help. It makes me home and I donot feel lonely. Community life is fraternal and every member is approchable and loving. All are faithful to the prayer life and punctual to the prayer. All these give me effort to learn and give a lot hope.
